This magnificent Texas airport was not the origin of American aviation, but it has a history nonetheless. A group of businessmen bought the plot of land long before the airport project was created in order to preserve it for future construction. The opening of the airport took place only in 1969 and it was called at that time the Houston Intercontinental Airport. In the late 1980s, the Houston administration decided to rename the airport in honor of Congressman Mickey Leland, who died in a plane crash, but in the end his name was given to Terminal D, and the airport itself received its final name "George W. Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston" in 1997. The introduction of modern technologies, the construction of new terminals, the expansion of the airport territory, all this attracts the airlines to be based at this airport. It is one of the two largest in Houston and has an annual passenger traffic of over 50 million. Five spacious terminals include several dozen restaurants, shops, currency exchange offices, offices of rental companies, VIP lounges. There is also a hotel on the territory of the airport. A tourist center has been set up at the airport for the placement of rental car rental points with information boards about flights, a gas station and other amenities. The airport has very convenient transport links, the main boulevard of the airport intersects with the expressway leading to the terminals and to several highways. Shuttle services to Houston and surrounding cities are provided by buses and taxis. But the most comfortable way to travel is undoubtedly a rental car. It is convenient to drive around Texas, visit the prairies, meet cowboys with a lasso in their hands. Not far from Houston there is a border with Mexico, you can visit it too. The center of cosmonautics deserves special attention. Houston also has an excellent selection of museums and theaters, and suburban natural and historic parks are breathtaking, such as the Battle of San Jacinto Park and the Orange Show Sculpture Park. Near Houston is the Galveston Cruise Center, from where luxury liners leave for the Atlantic Ocean. George W. Bush Airport receives flights from all over the world and is open to tourists from all over the world.
